ASTM A131 Grade E shipbuilding steel plates are classified into general strength hull structural steel with the minimum yield point of 34 ksi [235 Mpa], , which is almost exclusively applied in the shipbuilding industry. ASTM A131 Grade E marine grade steel plates are usually supplied in normalized, or termo-mechanical control processed condition with EN 10204 3.2 MTC.
ASTM A131 standard hull steel plates refers to the hot-rolled steel plate used to manufacture the hull structure produced in accordance with the requirements of the classification society's construction rules. The general-strength structural steels in the standards of China Classification Society are divided into four quality grades: A, B, D, and E (i.e. CCSA, CCSB, CCSD, CCSE); the high-strength structural steels in the standards of China Classification Society are three Intensity levels, four quality levels. Grade A is boiling steel, B satin is killed steel, grade D and E are fully killed fine grain (aluminum treatment) steel, the manganese content in grade E steel is higher than that of D grade steel and the carbon content is lower than D grade steel steel.
