S355J0W Steel Description

S355J0W weathering steel is a hot-rolled structural steel under the EN10025-5:2004 European standard. Also called S355J0W atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel, S355J0W steel equivalent to Corten B steel plate, its numerical grade is 1.8959. Since S355J0W weathering steel contains chemical elements such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel and molybdenum, etc., it can improve the resistance to atmospheric corrosion and form a protective layer on its surface under the influence of weather. It has good corrosion resistance to seawater, chemicals and different other gases, without the need for painting or external treatment, the material builds up its own protective layer that prevents further oxidation of the steel.

EN10025 S355J0W weathering steel is also a structural steel. Compared with other steels, it is lighter in weight. S355J0W weathering steel has higher yield strength, tensile strength and toughness in the tempered and quenched state, and has greater ductility and ductility. S355J0W weathering steel is better suited for machining, welding and forming. S355J0W steel can be used in various types of welded, bolted and riveted structures such as: steel frame structures, bridges, tanks and vessels, exhaust systems, vehicle and equipment structures, etc.

notes:
1. The nickel content of steel can be up to 0.65%;
2. For long S355J0W steel, the content of P and S can be higher than 0.005%;
3. S355J0W steel may contain max. 0.30 % Molybdenum and max. 0.15 % zirconium
4. Exceeding the specified value is allowed, provided that for every 0.001 % increase of N, P max. content will be reduced by 0.005%; however, the N content for ladle analysis should not exceed 0.012 %
5. Max. The value for nitrogen does not apply if the chemical composition shows a minimum total aluminum content of 0.020% or sufficient other nitrogen-binding elements are present
