Welcome to BBN Steel Materials Factory
DH36 steel plate is the Hull structural steel, with its good toughness properties, higher strength, strong corrosion-resistance, the processing properties, and welding properties. This kind of steel can be used in the manufacture of the ocean ship's hull structure whose weight is above 10000 tons.
Mechanical Properties of DH36 steel:
Tensile Strength: 58-80 Ksi
Yield Strength: 36 Ksi
Elongation: 20% min in 8”-21% min in 2’
Impact Energy: ≥34 J
Coefficient of thermal expansion: 10.5 µin/in°F
Specific Heat Capacity: 0.11 Btu/lb°F at 68°F
Thermal Conductivity: 22.4 Btu/ft hr°F
Chemical Composition of DH36 shipbuiling steel:
DH36 steel is composed of 0.15-0.20% Carbon, 0.70-0.90% Manganese, 0.20-0.50% Silicon, 0.035% Sulfur, 0.02% Phosphorus, 0.035-0.060% Copper, 0.0035% Boron, 0.02-0.15% Molybdenum, and 0.0135% Nickel.
Heating Treatments of DH36 steel:
When DH36 steel is subjected to thermal treatments such as annealing and quenching, it develops increased hardness and strength. DH36 steel is usually annealed at 721°C (1330°F), tempering at 649°C (1200°F), and quenched in water or oil.
Welding performance of DH36 steel:
The DH36 steel plates and sheets have yield strength of 36,000 psi (250 MPa), and ultimate tensile strength of 58,000 - 80,000 psi (400-550 MPa). It has 20% common elongation rate and yield, in sixteen millimeters, about 24%. DH36 steel is equipped with a verified compressive strength of over 51,000 psi, thus it provides comprehensive weldability properties. Pre heatDH36 steel plates by 150°F to 300°F just before welding, then preheat them to a greater point than the desired heat for welding. A proper tight transition joint at a higher temperature for the desired period of time is necessary to ensure the DH36 steel does not experience hydrogen embrittlement.
Application of DH36 marine steel
DH36 hull structural steel is widely used in the shipbuilding industry for the construction of structural parts of ships, barges and marine equipment. It is also used in the offshore oil drilling platform, the platform pipe joints and other components. The high strength characteristics of DH36 makes it ideal for applications to replace wearing steel in the construction of bridges and buildings.
