Welcome to BBN Steel Materials Factory
One of the main differences between S355ML and S355NL is their carbon content. S355ML carbon steel is been considered to have a carbon content of 0.16%, while S355NL has a carbon content of 0.18%. This is a difference of 0.05-0.10% in the carbon content of both steels. S355ML and S355NL steel are low-alloy steel grades classified under European standard EN 10025-3. This standard is designed to cover all flat products that are made from weldable, fine-grain structural steel grades with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. Both grades can be supplied in the form of heavy steel plates or sheets, and are suitable for a wide range of applications including bridges, railway structures and engineering works.
EN 10025 S355ML carbon low-alloy steel and S355NL steel have a minimum yield strength of 355 Mpa, making them suitable for structural projects that require a high level of strength. Both can also be supplied in an “M” (Thermomechanically rolled) and an “N” (Normalised) condition, depending on the specified end-use application. Furthermore, due to their low carbon content, both S355ML and S355NL can be MIG/TIG or oxyacetylene welded without pre or post-weld heat treatment. This provides significant savings in costs related to welding and heat treatment.

S355ML is a thermomechanically rolled steel that is characterised by a fine grain structure and excellent weldability. It has a minimum yield strength of 355Mpa, meaning that it is suitable for projects that require higher levels of strength. S355ML can also be supplied with guaranteed impact test temperature of 20°C.
S355NL carbon structural steel is a normalised steel that, apart from being an excellent weldable material, allows for greater trough thickness and a better surface finish. It also offers better thermal properties as well as improved notch toughness. Compared to S355ML, the S355NL has a lower minimum yield strength, making it more suited to applications where light weight construction is required.
