Welcome to BBN Steel Materials Factory
Q345R boiler steel is a low alloy steel commonly used in pressure vessels, boilers, and storage tanks. Q345R steel has high tensile strength and yield strength, and good plasticity and toughness. The chemical composition and mechanical properties of Q345R are equivalent to ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel. Q345R steel has a lower carbon content than ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel, which makes it more weldable and tougher.
The chemical composition of Q345R steel is as follows:
Element Content
Carbon (C) 0.20
Silicon (Si) 0.55
Manganese (Mn) 1.20-1.60
Phosphorus (P) 0.025
Sulfur (S) 0.015
Niobium (Nb) 0.06-0.12
Titanium (Ti) 0.02-0.20
Vanadium (V) 0.02-0.15
Aluminum (Al) 0.015-0.06
The mechanical properties of Q345R steel are as follows:
Yield strength Min. 345 N/mm^2
Tensile strength 510-650 N/mm^2
Elongation Min. 21%
Impact Test -20℃, 27J
ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel is a high-pressure vessel steel plate with good weldability, excellent notch toughness, and good corrosion resistance. A516 Gr70 steel is used in the fabrication of pressure vessels and industrial boilers. ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel is equivalent to Q345R steel.
The chemical composition of ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel is as follows:
Element Content
Carbon (C) 0.27
Silicon (Si) 0.13-0.45
Manganese (Mn) 0.79-1.30
Phosphorus (P) 0.035
Sulfur (S) 0.035
Niobium (Nb) 0.005-0.05
Titanium (Ti) 0.02
Vanadium (V) 0.02
Aluminum (Al) 0.02
The mechanical properties of ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel are as follows:
Yield strength Min. 260 N/mm^2
Tensile strength 485-620 N/mm^2
Elongation Min. 17%
Impact Test -40℃, 34J
Comparison between Q345R Steel and ASTM A516 Grade 70 Steel:
Both Q345R steel and ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel are high-pressure vessel steel plates. Q345R steel has a lower carbon content than ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel, which gives it better weldability and toughness. However, Q345R steel has lower tensile strength and yield strength than ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel.
Q345R boiler and pressure vessel steel has good corrosion resistance, while ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel is known for its ability to resist pitting and crevice corrosion. Both Q345R steel and ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel are good choices for pressure vessel fabrication, depending on the specific requirements of the application.
