What material grade is 40Cr alloy steel?

40Cr alloy steel

40Cr alloy steel is a widely used material in various engineering applications due to its excellent properties. 40Cr alloy structure steel belongs to the standard grade of structural steel in China, and it is similar to the grade 5140 in the United States. 40Cr alloy steel is a widely used material in various engineering applications due to its excellent properties. The chemical composition of 40Cr alloy steel includes carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and chromium. The mechanical properties of 40Cr alloy steel include tensile strength, yield strength, elongation at break, reduction in area, and hardness. The heat treatment process of 40Cr alloy steel involves annealing, quenching, and tempering. The applications of 40Cr alloy steel include the manufacturing of gears, machine parts, automotive parts, construction, and railway industry.

The chemical composition of GB/T 3077 40Cr alloy steel is as follows:

Carbon (C): 0.37 to 0.44%

Silicon (Si): 0.17 to 0.37%

Manganese (Mn): 0.50 to 0.80%

Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.035%

Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.035%

Chromium (Cr): 0.80 to 1.10%

The mechanical properties of 40Cr alloy steel are as follows:

Tensile Strength: ≥ 980 MPa

Yield Strength (0.2% offset): ≥ 785 MPa

Elongation at Break: ≥ 9%

Reduction in Area: ≥ 45%

Hardness: ≤ 217 HB

The heat treatment process of 40Cr alloy steel involves the following steps:

Annealing: The first step in heat treatment is annealing, which involves heating the material at 870°C to 910°C for six to eight hours. After the material is heated, it is cooled very slowly in the furnace to room temperature. This process makes the material soft and easy to machine.

Quenching: The material is heated to 850°C to 880°C and is then rapidly cooled by quenching in oil or water. This process makes the material harder and more durable.

Tempering: After quenching, the material is heated at a temperature of 450°C to 600°C and held for two hours then cooled in air. This process increases the toughness of the material.

Applications of GB 40CR Alloy Structure Steel:

40Cr alloy steel is widely used in various applications due to its excellent properties, such as high strength, toughness and durability. Some of the applications of 40Cr alloy steel are:
